Goobye Palin and Homosexual marriage rights

Obama won. Woohoo. Change, hopefully would really happen when he finally comes into power next year. Can’t wait to see what he could bring into the government. Indeed, this is a very exciting time for America. I just hope that between now and his inaguration nothing bad will happen to him. On my train ride home, all I hear people discuss is how they are so proud to be Americans because of the way things turned out. Kinda made me wonder what would have happened had McCain won.

Oh, Palin. It has been a rather hilarious election because of her and thanks also to her deadringer Tina Fey. NBC sure did capitalize on their physical similarities. It was funny for a while but I think, even for who she is, Palin did not deserve that kind of humiliating treatment and how they seem to highlight only her flaws. While browsing over some blog entries and comments, I noticed how some people became pretty upset over how she was treated. On the other hand, there where other people who thought that it was just appropriate. Anyway, I kinda wonder what would she do next. She would definitely go back to Alaska where she is still governor. But I doubt if we have seen the last of her.

California’s Proposition 8 is still undecided. The proposition was an initiative state constitutional amendment on the 2008 California General Election ballot, titled Eliminates Right of Same-Sex Couples to Marry. The proposition will “change the California Constitution to eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in California.” A new section will be added stating “only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California.” It was one of the most controversial and heavily funded proposition. A total of $74 million was spent by both sides. Money from other states were pouring in because it’s been a common claim that “As California goes, so does other states go.” The passage of this proposition might inspire other states to follow suits. Other states have also instituted the ban of gay marriage so this one is an additional boost for their initiatives. In the coming days, it would most probably continue to be challenged since it’s opponents claim that it is “wrong and unfair to treat homosexuals differently.”
